Tina Fey's Sitcom Picked Up!

Exciting News! Tina Fey's new sitcom "30 Rock", with Rachel Dratch, Alec Baldwin & Tracey Morgan, has been picked up for the Fall 2006-2007 season! It will air Weds nights at 9:30 PM in the Fall.

No word yet on what effect this will have on Rachel returning to SNL next season. Word is that Tina will return and that the new sitcom will be filmed around her SNL schedule. We'll have to see if Rachel does the same or not. Stay Tuned.

O'Grady Alert!!

The new "O'Grady" episode Rachel did, called "The Fly", will be airing for the 1st time this coming MONDAY April 10 6pm pdt on the NOGN cable channel! Check your local listings for times in your area. It will air twice that night and once again the following Monday (the 17th).

SNL star asked to serve as Schmidt

After Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio) refused to debate her primary challenger, state Rep. Bob McEwen, in front of a Cincinnati-area Republican club, the club invited comedian Rachel Dratch of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” to stand in for Schmidt at the event.

Dratch portrayed the controversial congresswoman on the show last fall after Schmidt’s infamous “cut and run” comment about Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) on the House floor.

The Anderson Township Republican Club scheduled the debate for April 19. According to club spokesman Duffy Beischel, Schmidt had agreed to a debate, but her campaign later notified the club that she would not be taking part.

Lest the event become a “McEwen monologue,” said a release, the club started looking for alternatives.

“Some of our club members suggested to me that we invite ‘Saturday Night Live’s’ Rachel Dratch to take Mrs. Schmidt’s part in the debate,” said Beischel. “I thought that was a great idea, so invitations were sent” to Dratch and producer Lorne Michaels.

“If Ms. Dratch is able to accept our invitation, she would articulate the positions as submitted in the response Mrs. Schmidt gave on a questionnaire the club prepared for all candidates prior to the last primary debate,” said club President Russ Jackson.

Beischel said yesterday that he exchanged e-mails with Marc Liepis, the show’s press flack. Beischel told him that the club is prepared to pay Dratch’s travel expenses and asked him to take the offer seriously. He said Liepis told him he would, although it isn’t the type of thing cast members normally do.

Liepis yesterday would only confirm that he had recieved a fax.

Schmidt campaign manager Allen Freeman said, “We never agreed to attend their event,” and that the past week’s events have played out his fears that it would turn into “a circus".

Filming has begun on the Untitled Tina Fey project, starring Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, Rachel Dratch, and Alec Baldwin. Word is not yet in on if it has been picked up, but it looks hopeful! Stay Tuned!

Rachel on "O'Grady"!

A brand new season of O'Grady kicks off tonight at 9pm - with a premiere featuring Conan O'Brien and fellow SNL-er Amy Poehler - and we're trying to spread the word, and get as many people to see our show & all these incredible guest stars as possible!

Unfortunately, The N isn't carried yet by all cable or satellite packages, so not everyone has the opportunity to tune in. Rachel to appear on the Logo channel's "Graham Norton NY" show, Monday (tonight!) 1/30 at 11:30 pm. The interview appears to be almost 2 years old, so nothing current going on there. Still will be of interest to those who never saw it.

New SNL- Jan 14! Scarlett Johansson w/ musical guests Death Cab For Cutie.

Jim Zulevic, who was in the Second City Mainstage with Rachel and performed together on "Paradigm Lost", passed away Jan 7. Jim was a beloved fixture at Second City as an actor, director, teacher and the weekly host of Second City radio. Condolences go out to his family and his many friends. An article about him as well as information on the wake, funeral service, and memorials, can be found HERE.

The Fan Forum for Rachel is gaining new members and lots of conversation! It's a great little community of folks who love Rachel and her work, as well as fans who love Saturday Night Live, and appreciate good comedy in general. There is even an Improv/Comedy Discussion section, for those interested in following in Rachel's footsteps. It also serves as a "support group" of sorts. Check it out!

Been awhile since I last updated the news. Rachel has started her 7th season of SNL! :) This weekend is Lance Armstrong as host, and musical guest Sheryl Crow.

A few changes on Rachel's website. Slightly new look on the main page (less graphics intensive, which makes it easier/quicker to load for people with slower internet connections). Will be adding a Media Section soon! That will consist of links to articles, videos, and a photo gallery. Stay Tuned!

Looks like Rachel will get quite a bit of on-screen time by end of this year! "Freshman Orientation" (formerly "Home of Phobia") is being seen as part of Outfest (gay and lesbian film festival). It will then be released as "Freshman Year", in theatres in October.

:: note: please correct me if I am wrong on the name of "Freshman Year". I am a bit confused. ;) ::

Meanwhile, "Winter Passing", with Will Ferrell, is supposively being released in December, last I heard.

And "Her Minor Thing" is making the rounds of film festivals this year and looking for distribution. They are hoping for a Fall 2005 release.

In other movie news, Rachel has been signed to appear in Adam Sandler's new movie "Click". I don't know much about this but I will report more when I do.

... for saying Rachel would be on all week on AMC's "Celebrity Charades", when it turns out she wasnt on it at all. :( I wish I had had more info, but I simply didnt.

Well, if you ended up liking the shows, great! :)

I don't know what happened. Maybe for some reason she couldnt finish filming her segment and so they re-shot without her but left her in the promos? Just a guess. Everyone else they show in the promos were present and accounted for (from what I could tell).

edit to add: Peter Boyle and Dr. Joyce Brothers were apparently in the episode with her and they too were no-shows.

Stay Tuned, in case more episodes are being aired in the future.

Again, I am sorry for the inaccurate information. :-/

Next week, Mon June 20 through Fri June 24th, AMC will be showing "Celebrity Charades". Rachel Dratch will be in one of the episodes. Not sure which one yet, but will update this as I find out.

SNL star hosts fund-raiser for muscular dystrophy

NORWALK -- Live from Norwalk! It's Saturday night with Rachel Dratch!

Saturday Night Live's 2005 season ended last week, so Dratch, a player in the ensemble cast, contributed her star power last night to a fund-raiser to battle Duchenne muscular dystrophy at Cranbury Park's Gallagher Estate.

"At first, the idea was for me to teach improv," Dratch said. "But I said, 'It's going to be me and a bunch of drunk adults.'"

Instead of teaching guests how to be funny, Dratch showed some clips of her favorite vignettes from SNL and took questions.

Her favorite character to play? At the top was Debbie Downer, the sour-faced pessimist who repeatedly ruins conversations with depressing factoids on subjects such as global warming, melanoma and mad cow disease. Dratch created the character herself.

"I was having a conversation with a group of strangers," Dratch said. "Someone brought up 9/11. It sort of scrunched everyone up. That's how I thought of that character."

Asked whether any guest hosts were hard to work with, she said most are so nervous to be on the live show that they are polite.

"They're about to enter this huge frenzy," Dratch said.

A favorite guest of hers this year was Paul Giamatti of the film, "Sideways."

"He's so naturally funny," she said. "He's a true actor."

Not every guest is comfortable with SNL's fast-paced humor, she said. Academy Award-winning actors sometimes have trouble on the show.

"The people that do best sometimes are politicians or sports figures," Dratch said. "They just try to have fun. They're not trying to overthink it."

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the glimpses into your life on Saturday Night Live! I have missed you, ever since I last saw you when you were at the Oscars with Hilary Swank and you made her night miserable; a Debbie-Downer speciality! ;p

Check out the new look on the front page of Rachel's website, when you get a chance. :) No more corkboard. Was fun for awhile but time for a change. And I wanted it to more closely resemble the rest of the site and yet hang on to the "polaroids", since I really liked those. In case any of you noticed missing pics on Rachel's website today, or noticed that the front page was missing it's "corkboard", it's because there's some some strange stuff going on with the server; where files disappear and I've had to re-upload them. Hopefully just a server hiccup. I've been with them for several years w/o hardly an incident, so I won't complain too loudly. ;) Still, I'll be calling them tomorrow or monday to make sure everything is ok. Meanwhile, please let me know if you notice anything on the website that looks odd, any issues, or missing pics.. and I'll take care of it.

Secondly.. Just a reminder; if anything ever happens to Rachel's website where you can't get in or you see that it is down or anything, always check here on this blog to see if I have posted anything about it. I planned it that way - that her newsblog is on an entirely different server from the website. That way, if anything goes wrong, you can always come here and check the news. You can also come here to leave me a comment if there is an issue I might not be aware of at the time. I check things everyday to make sure, but I could still miss stuff.

Directed by Evan Cabnet and featuring Saturday Night Live’s Rachel Dratch, Zak Orth, Austin Lysy and Susan Pourfar, THE MISTAKES THAT MADELINE MADE will be read on Monday, March 28 at 7 PM at Ars Nova (511 West 54th Street).

Ablutophobia, the fear of bathing, becomes a problem for three personal assistants working in cramped quarters. An unlikely story of love and dirty people.

ELIZABETH MERIWETHER (Playwright). Her work has been developed at the Long Wharf Theatre, the Underwood Theatre, the Tank, Chashama Theatre, and the SoHo Playhouse. Nicky Goes Goth was produced as part of the New York International Fringe Festival 2004, and The True Love Story Of My Parents was produced as part of Vital Theatre's Vital Signs Festival. She is a member of Ensemble Studio Theatre's Youngblood writing collective and was commissioned by the Les Freres Corbusier theatre company to write Heddatron-- an adaptation of Hedda Gabler with live robots-- which will be produced spring 2006.

Late tonight (technically tomorrow morning) at 1 am on KLCS, the docmentary about Second City.. "Second to None".. will be aired! It was on last night and I'm sorry I missed it but I just got the heads-up today and luckily it will be repeated. Check your local listings to see what channel KLCS airs in your area. KLCS is a local channel so I'm afraid only Southern California will see it. But I suggest doing a search on your TV Guide website and see if maybe it is being shown through another station in your area.

"IT" will be launched 12 am EST on Feb 22, in time for Rachel's birthday! :)

What is "IT"?? A new website devoted to Rachel. Other than 2 fanlistings (that I know of), a Live Journal Community, and this blog, there isn't anything on the web devoted to just Rachel.. but all that is about to change. :) She will now have her own website!

When it's launched, this blog will still be around as the "news blog". Basically that's what this is anyway. So, nothing much will change other than I won't have the sidebar links (other than "essentials", and "previous posts/archives" links). There will be a section of the new website for all the links I find, organized in categories. Martha Stewart would be so proud! ;)

As part of the website, there is a message board (which is launched now), and you are welcome to stop by and register and post!

In other news.. wow, Rachel had a great night last night! If you saw last night's SNL, she had alot going on! :) There was even a Debbie Downer! It was a rather odd one, but fun! Somehow Debbie made her way to Hollywood to see the Oscar Ceremonies, on an invite from Hilary Swank, whom she used to babysit. Debbie proceeded to spread her "sunshine" around, until Hilary couldnt take it any longer and left, not even staying to get her Oscar! We didnt see this part, but I think Debbie accepted the Oscar on her behalf. I wonder what her speech was???? I'm sure it was something really bright and cheery!!! ;D

I'll be a bit late on the weekly TV alert list, but will have it posted by later tonight, in time for the new week. "IT" has been keeping me busy! :)

Rachel's "best of.."

I don't want a "best of" Rachel Dratch just yet. Because, seeing it would mean Rachel is no longer on SNL.. and she is my favorite so would really miss her when she goes. But, when the time comes to compile a "Best of" for her, what would you include in it, if it were up to you?

I'd love to see her "Harry Potter" sketch with Lindsay Lohan, "Debbie Downer" (especially the one with Lindsay), "Sheldon", the horny old man movie producer (Scheinwald?) with Snoop Dogg, Angelina Jolie's love child.. wow, so many! I think she will need a 2 DVD set, like Will!

I'd also love to see the lost "Lovahs" sketch she did with Ellen DeGeneres, where they were "former lovahs". ;) Never has been seen, since it was cut after Dress.

Any particular sketches you'd like to see? How about on the "Extras", like maybe her interviews with Conan (especially the one where she performs a Led Zep song on her cello, & where she reads off names and email addresses of posters who wrote insulting things about her on the SNL newsgroup), and her audition for SNL, and some old footage of her sketches on Second City?

Best of Will Ferrell vol. 2

I watched "Best of Will Ferrell 2" tonight, rented from Blockbuster. No Cowbell skit. I guess that is in DVD 1. But they did have "Lovahs". ;-D Sooo funny! :) There were some other hysterical skits on it too, quite a few with Rachel. :) I miss Will on SNL.

Dress Rehearsal Debbie Downer, & Other Thoughts..

I was VERRRY happy to see last night's rerun of Ben Affleck's SNL appearance from earlier this season. In my journal, I complained that this Debbie Downer skit was kind of blah compared to the Lindsay Lohan one. Well, the wonderful folks at SNL must've thought so too, because they went ahead and showed the DRESS REHEARSAL version, in which they all ended up cracking up, which is what we all WANT! ;D It was funny because, before they showed it, there was a disclaimer saying something like "this is from the dress rehearsal, simply because it worked better". Something like that. And boy do I agree! ;D

I sure needed that laugh! Thanks, Rachel and SNL, for the laughs. :)

I hope there will be a "best of Rachel Dratch" SNL dvd. Meanwhile, I think I will rent Will Ferrell's "best of", tonight. I love "More Cowbell", and "the Lovahs". Hope the Lovahs are on that dvd.

ps: What I would give for Ellen DeGeneres to host SNL again and be in a Debbie Downer skit!!!! Talk about "good TV"! :)
